Kimono Experience went to an elementary school in Upper Westside to give two classes in the 3rd grade kimono workshops.
(It was the 8th year.)
I went with two assistants (including a professional dresser, Chisa Sakurai), carrying 15 children’s Yukata sets and a formal kimono set.
The program for a 40 min. period was the following.
1. Power Point Presentation about Japanese Kimono
2. Kimono dressing demonstration (dressing a teacher in the most formal kimono for unmarried women)
3. Yukata (casual cotton kimono for summer) dressing demonstration for a boy and a girl
4. Students try dressing yukata each other.
Everyone enjoyed experiencing yukata dressing!
